A NOTE FROM BOOKER

Hello!

Last night I was awakened from my sleep by tree branches hitting my window. I meant to trim them out a few weeks ago, but I got too busy to do that. Then, last night we had a wind storm that made the branches knock against the window. At first I was scared. I thought the trees had come to life, and were trying to get into my room.

I was reminded of a great book we are featuring on Kidsreads.com. It is about a mystical world called Maether that exists in The City of Trees. The Great One made this world, and something is killing off the trees and the inhabitants of the land. The main character in the book tries to escape her bad stepfather by finding The City of Trees. She believes her dead father meant for her to get there. On her way, she experiences a lot of danger. It is a wonderful fantasy book, and if you want to read more about it, click here!

After I woke up enough to realize that the tree branches were not trying to get me, I lay there thinking about the book, and soon I was asleep again. You know, this book would be a great one to read if you like the Harry Potter books. Now, on to more news for this week...

Harry Fans Beware!
If you're a Potter fan who has created a Web site in tribute to Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, or anything related to the series, you might be hearing from some lawyers. It seems Warner Bros., the company that owns movie and merchandising rights to the Harry Potter books, believes that any other unofficial Web sites about Harry are bad news. Get more Harry news here.

Women's History Month
In the 1970s there was a great movement in this country to begin teaching students about the notable contributions of women throughout history, the same way lessons were taught about famous men. By 1978, California was celebrating Women's History Week in early March. The trend was catching on all over the country, and in 1981, our U.S. Congress was moved to officially designate a national Women's History Week. The response to it was so great that in 1987 Congress stretched the week-long celebration into a month-long one: Women's History Month. Don't miss our roundup of great books about women who helped shape our country.

As The Rain Beats Down
Clear your mind and take my hand,
I can guide you out of the rain,
Trust me now or not at all for I can get you through this trouble.

The rain beats down upon us now,
it is storming overhead.
The lightening can break you heart,
and the thunder will confuse your brain.

I see a tear trickle down your confused face,
and I am here to wipe it from your cheek.
The pressure is too strong now for words,
and the sadness overwhelms your fate.

If you keep going on and keep it within,
Your fate will be paved in stone and no hope will remain.
There is still hope now, so turn back while you can.
I still bear a hand to clutch, and a shoulder to lean on.
So please accept them now and forget the past and present.

The rain is beating harder and sky has turned a scary green,
but right ahead the light is clear.
You cannot see it for you have hidden it from view,
But I see it up ahead, trust will surely get you through.

I now feel your hand in mine, and I feel the rain soften.
I know feel a tight embrace and now feel no more thunder.
I now hear your weeps of joy as the sun begins to rise.

Thank you for your loving trust,
It has saved your heart and soul.

The Clothes I Want

Yesterday at the mall
I saw something made in Nepal
If I wore it, I'd look tall
I'd be hotter than all

Then I looked at the price tag
$44.50!!!!

Do I have that much? No.
I'd have to wait for the price to be low.
My parents would say its too much & so-so
HOW MEAN~

I went to your trivia and I took it and got all 10 questions right, it helped me remember what we have read in the book so far. I am going to share this with my teacher, she will be proud of me, hopefully.

Hi Booker! Last week a kid wrote to you that reading gives brainpower and is helpful. Well, I've heard reading helps you pass SATs too and other reading tests. It may not be helpful to many kids in junior high and younger, but it helped me. I'm in 6th grade and an Academic Program picked out a few 6th graders in my city to take the SAT and if they pass or get close to passing they'll be in their program. So I was chosen and reading books really did help me A LOT! If I wasn't a bookworm, the test will be really hard for a 6th grader (because SATs are for students going to college). I haven't got the results, but I'm sure I did well.

This morning I was sitting by my fireplace reading a book from series. the name of the book is A HORSE CALLED WONDER. I also already read Christina's Courage. My favorite book is Beauty, it's about this horse and it gets stuck in the cattle guards and the owner is a little boy. And his parents & grandparent was in the hospital. So he called the hospital and the grandparent told the boy to take a gun and kill the horse so it wouldn't suffer.
