A NOTE FROM BOOKER
Hello!
I received a lot of e-mails this week asking what books I recommend for those of you
that are going to camp or traveling on vacation with your family. Here at BOOKWORM, we are
never without something to read, so we have some wonderful recommendations for both camp books and travel books. If this summer is dull for you,
spice it up with a great read, whether you are on a long road trip, at summer camp, or
just hanging out at home.

Coming Soon in August
This new feature launches this week. Look for it on the left hand side of Kidsreads.com.
What's there? A list of the books that will be coming out in August including the latest titles in some of your favorite book
series. Can you say Lemony Snicket?
Reading Lists
I get so many requests for good books to read by age category. As a result, we've
freshened up our Reading Lists,
adding new titles in all the New Favorites and Classics categories. Be sure to check them
out when you need a great book to read!
Jurassic Park
Back in 1990, Michael Crichton, a bestselling author of books for adults, wrote JURASSIC
PARK, his novel about a remote-island tourist attraction where live dinosaurs (cloned from
ancient DNA) roamed in the wild. In 1993, director Steven Spielberg turned Chrichton's
novel into a hit feature film for Universal, followed by The Lost World: Jurassic Park II
in 1997 (based on Crichton's sequel, THE LOST WORLD). Now comes the feature flick Jurassic
Park III which opened on July 18th and is based on the characters from the previous books
nd movies (but without Spielberg at the helm). Though many of you will not be able to see
the movie, as it's rated PG-13, we know you've probably heard about it and are wondering
what it's about. We're here to help you out, serving up a short synopsis of the film,
a list of the kids' movie tie-in books inspired by the movie, and our cool round-up of dinosaur books. We hope
you have fun exploring!
Craft/Activity Books
Do you like to get creative? Have you got the "there's nothing to
do" blues? No matter what inspires you to take a look at these craft and activity
books, we know you'll be glad you did.
If you've got some time and are ready for fun, there's sure to be something on our list
that will have you crafting in a flash. Maybe you'll try making a piggy bank out of
papier-mache. Or creating your own stationery. Or making cool decorations for a party or
for your bedroom wall. We've got easy-to-follow books on all these projects and more in
our super-crafty round-up of
books.
THE MAGIC PRETZEL
There are plenty of giggles to go around when you turn the pages of this wacky chapter
book. Take some time to read our review of THE MAGIC PRETZEL.
FAT CAMP COMMANDOS
Spending their summer at a fat camp (where chubby children are sent to be slimmed
down) was not what Ralph and Sylvia wanted to do for their summer vacation. Unfortunately
their plump parents listened to Simon Primly who said, "I see so many round, fat,
unhappy children. They will grow up to be miserable. They will be hated. They will become
stupid. And many of them will turn to crime." Click here to read more.
SAMMY KEYES AND THE HOLLYWOOD
MUMMY
In this sixth book in the SAMMY KEYES series, Sammy decides that she has to hop a
Greyhound bus for Hollywood, pronto. Sammy's mom, otherwise known as "Peachy
Bleachy," is up to her ears in big trouble, but she doesn't know it. Read our review
of SAMMY KEYES AND THE HOLLYWOOD MUMMY here.

Magic
Joanne was an individual she really truly was
She always wrote and read stories which were her only love.
She was actually quite intelligent though some thought her a twit
She was cunning, clever, and had amazing wit.
Joanne started at Wyedean Comprehensive School
And hung out with Sean Harris her best friend who was pretty cool.
She wrote short stories at school and achieved high grades.
By her last year she was Head Girl or Lead Pupil, her parents were amazed.
In 1983 Joanne went to Exeter University
She studied French and classics, knew it by heart from A to Z.
She spent a year in Paris as a teaching assistant as part of her degree
After graduation she worked as a research assistant for Amnesty.
While on a stalled train a story came to her
About a character named Harry Potter.
She creates the whole world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Unfortunately she has no pen or paper so she commits it all to memory.
Her Mother then died from MS at the age of 45
Joanne was only in her mid-twenties; Her mother's death made her cry.
Joanne married in '92 and gave birth to Jessica in '93
Near Christmas she divorced and continued work on her wizard story.
Joanne moved in with her sister, Di, who studied law
Living on welfare in a one-bedroom flat, life wasn't a ball
Finally she finished the manuscript for her story
And as she sent it to agents she never imagined so much glory.
Joanne's hard work was rewarded
Bloomsbury publishes and Scholastic's makes highest bid.
Her books are now published around the world
The same story is read everywhere by adults, boys, and girls.

Fire
Shimmering, shining
The flames dance around
Leaping high and running wild
Golden yellow like a crown
Climbing up and running down
Orange, yellow, and bright neon red
Crackling and sending sparks
And helping little fires to start and be fed
The fire dies down as an orange glow,
Trying to hold on,
With no where to go,
Sparks fly high yet the flames creep low.
The ring of ash is all that's there,
A memory what once was great,
Now a lifeless black that has no depth,
A single spark is a that's left.

I am 6 years old.
I wrote this poem.
FLOWER POWER
Flower Power takes a shower
every hour in the tower.
Flower Power ate a lemon
that was sour.
That is how he gets his power.
Flower power said I need a shower
it is past an hour.
The Flower Power saw another
flower that had some power.
He invited him to his tower.

We
Are God's Children
See how very much our heavenly Father there loves us. He allows us to be
called his children, and we really are! Most people don't know God. So they
don't understand that we are his children. Yes,dear friends we are already
God's children. We can't imagine what it is going to be like later on.

Harry Potter 1-4
The Immortals Series
Royal Diaries
Have fun reading because it will always help out in the future.

My favorite author is C.S. Lewis. Why? Because I love his books. You know
, The Chronicles. I think they are very interesting. In fact I think his books are the
most Interesting books I have ever read. My favorite book of the series would have to be
The Last Battle. It ends the series in such a perfect way that it kind of makes you sad to
know that you have to stop reading them and start reading another book. I wonder if
C.S. Lewis will make another book to the Chronicles.

I know of a great book I read not long ago, it's called The Secret Garden

I find your website very bemusing, but I think you might want to encourage
readers there is a plethora of books out there, and you cannot capture the essence and the
beauty and joys of literature until you have read something from each of the genres.

Now that summer has began, me and my mother have started to take numorous

were great! I think everyone should read them!

I really liked the book tangerine. It is by Edward Bloor. It is about this
kid who is legally blind but he can see really well. Lighting hits at the same time in
that place they live. It is called angerine. It is called that because Tangerines used 2
grow there. The kids older brother plays really good football and everyone praises him.
But the kid (paul) plays pretty good goalie but no one seems 2 notice him. He knows it is
to cover up something wrong until the family moved 2 Tangerine. They lived in Houston
before

I am reading a book that I firmly believe is incredible! The book is
entitled When the Legends Die and is written by Hal Borland. It is about how an Indian boy
lives in the old way in the mountains until someone comes by and takes him away and puts
him in this school. He is now forbidden to practice the old ways, which was taught to him
by his parents, who are now dead.
