A NOTE FROM BOOKER

Hello!

Many of you had problems accessing Kidsreads.com over the past week. Our web server  was hit by a virus called NIMDA and we had to shut down our websites in order to fix the problem. We are finally back up and running and thank you for your patience with us while we resolved this problem.

I received a lot of e-mails from our kidsreads.com visitors, asking if we here at Bookworm were okay in New York after the World Trade Center attacks. We feel very lucky that our staff and offices were not immediately impacted by this tragedy, and thank those of you who reached out to us during the past few weeks with kind words and inquiries about our safety. Our hearts go out to the victims and families, and we offer our admiration to the brave men and women who are toiling in the rescue operations. Also, we are now "flying a flag" on the front screen of Kidsreads.com as a symbol of our united stand with the rest of America.

We've all seen the news stories of the past few weeks about terrorists, innocent victims and heroes. But what do these stories MEAN? What exactly are terrorists? Why would they do this? How can we understand their actions? What can we do to make the world a better place? Kidsreads.com is proud to present an excerpt called Understanding Terrorism from a forthcoming book called BAD STUFF IN THE NEWS: A Family Guide to Handling the Headlines by authors Rabbi Marc Gellman and Monsignor Thomas Hartman that may give you some answers, or prompt some more discussion.

There is a lot to catch up on, so on with the news...

Question of the Week
Here's this week's Question of the Week:

If you could write your favorite author, what one question would you want to ask him/her?

Send your answer to YouSaid@kidsreads.com. Write "Question" in the subject line. We'll post your answers online!

Cool New Books for September
September is definitely not a slim month for new books! We have reviews of 23 new books out this month in our Cool New Books for September section.

Redwall Series
For those not in the know, Redwall is a magic place, populated by animals. The book series name comes from Redwall Abbey, the community most of the characters live in. TAGGERUNG is the 14th Redwall adventure, by bestselling author Brian Jacques, and it's got everything a Redwall lover could want.

Nate the Great Series
Want to learn more about everybody's favorite junior sleuth and his creator, Marjorie Sharmat? Well, look no further. Kidsreads.com has solved the case for you with the Nate the Great Series!

Captain Underpants Series
Who is the greatest, most hilarious superhero in the history of elementary school?  What elastic-waist adventurer fights for "Truth, Justice and all that is Pre-shrunk and Cottony" and can "leap tall building without getting a wedgie"? That's right, it's Captain Underpants!!

BOOK REVIEWS:

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
FOR YOUR EYES ONLY moves quickly and really holds your interest. It’s got a lot of funny parts, too. It is beautifully written, and really shows you that you can make your own beauty --- through art and poetry --- no matter how ugly your surroundings may be.

MIRACLE'S BOYS
This is a quiet novel that you can read quickly.  All the action takes place in one day, but it never feels hurried or too busy.  If you are looking for a book that makes violence, gang life, and fighting brothers seem dramatic or glamorous, this is not the book for you.  But if you want to read a realistic story about how these elements of urban life affect a small, loving family, try reading MIRACLE'S BOYS.

TAGGERUNG
TAGGERUNG is book 14 of the Redwall series and features Sawney Rath, a baby otter who is searching for his real home --- Redwall.

CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS AND THE WRATH OF THE WICKED WEDGIE WOMAN
See how this new villian stirs things up for Captain Underpants in THE WRATH OF THE WICKED WEDGIE WOMAN.

Poems from fellow Bookworms

Oh Look It's a book,
I'm sure it must be,
I path of adventures waiting for me!
A yellow brick road to the wizard of oz,
A frivolous poem withput any cause.
Should i open it and peek to see what's inside?
what if it's scary, i might need to hide!
I'll never know unless i dare,
I need a good laugh, a cry or a scare.
I'm sure it can wait--well then i'll never know
Maybe it's someplace that i'll never go.
But today's the day that's been waiting for me
I'll open this book, and i will see!
---From the Chicken Soup for the Kid's soul!
