A NOTE FROM BOOKER

Hello!

I like to volunteer at the elementary school here. I love to go and read books to the classes, go on field trips, and help out in any way I can. Since Mother's Day is this Sunday, the worm kids wanted to find books to read. So, I went to the school library and collected quite a few books for them to read. I promised them I would read one to the class on Friday, but I have not decided which one would be the best one, yet. Their teacher told them that after I read to them, they will make cards for their mothers. I even had a couple of the kids say they would help me make cards for my mother and grandmother, so I will have a special treat for them. Why not pick out a book from our Mother's Day feature to share with your mom? You might also want to check out some of the Mother's Day book choices that other Bookworms told us about in last week's responses to the Question of the Week.

Thanks for reading the newsletter this week! Remember to click on the blue underlined letters to go to any feature listed in the newsletter.

Now on to more news…

HOW TO DISAPPEAR COMPLETELY AND NEVER BE FOUND
Margaret is having difficulty understanding her new life. Her father, who was a champion swimmer, drowned four years ago. Life with mom has been difficult since that happened. Now Margaret, her sister Sophie and their friend Boyd are seeing themselves in comic books. But the comics aren't funny, and the three of them are afraid that what's in the comics will really happen to them. HOW TO DISAPPEAR COMPLETELY AND NEVER BE FOUND is the question that Margaret is asking herself.

WHERE HEROES HIDE

Touching Spirit Bear
This was an amazing book. I really wish I had found it a few months ago when I was teaching a unit on bullying. I teach middle school students who are said to have emotional handicaps. Two of my students approached me after I bought the book at our school's book fair and asked me to read it. I am reading it to my class now and the kids are enjoying it very much. I see a large potentional of activities we could do with the book, but right now we just do not have the time. I will finish Touching Spirit Bear but the end of the year is fast approaching. I am also having my students read a play taken off of A Christmas Carol and my students are comparing Scrooge and Cole. This really is a wonderful book and I have been telling my co-workers about it. We need more wonderful stories like this one that really make the students think.

*****

I love, and mean love, to read books. I especially love writing contest because my future ambition is to become an author. I have already written over 50 stories. I would love to become part of a book club. I am a straight A student, and I am in the 6th grade. This summer, I will reach my summer reading goal, 30 books. And, because I am such a good student and writer, they will put me in the OPTIONAL PROGRAM!

I am thirteen years old and I am thoroughly enjoying reading the Dear America series. I have read more than half of them and I am planing to read them all. I am currently reading the newest book, A Time For Courage - the suffragette diary of Kathleen Bowen by Kathyrn Lasky. I find it to be very interesting and I have had a hard time putting it down. Of course that is how it has been with all of these books. This series has helped me learn a lot about history in a fun way.
