Book Reviews:

DOGLAND by Will Shetterly
Dogland is a motel, restaurant and a zoo, all in one. It's 1959 and things are very different than they are now. Racism existed, and the owners of Dogland, the Nix family, may be run out of business by the Klu Klux Klan. This story tells of a time when racial unrest was dominant in the U.S. Don't miss out on Dogland, especially if you are a dog lover!

WHISTLER'S HOLLOW by Debbie Dadey
Lillie Mae was told her father died in World War I, but she doesn't believe it. Then her mother dies in an accident at a factory she worked at. Lillie Mae gets whisked away to live with her aunt and uncle, where she doesn't feel very well liked. Things get worse when her aunt gets sick. Can Lillie Mae turn her life around? Is her father really alive? You'll have to read Whistler's Hollow to find out.

Poems from fellow Bookworms

*****

This is a poem by my friend:

America is beautiful, America the great,
America is something I will never hate.
For this is my home, my life, my land,
America is my future, which I hold in my hand.

September 11 was awful to all,
No, we will never let our freedom fall.
For freedom is all we have to give,
To fight the war, and win to live.

Freedom soars like a dove,
From the underground sea to the sky above.
Just be nice, and do not shove,
For America is exactly what we all love.

*****

If I Could
If I could, I'd make the blind see,
If I could, I'd make the deaf hear,
If I could, I'd house the homesless
and clothe the needy,
If I could, I'd end poverty,
If I could, I'd end racism,
If I could, I'd stop wars,
If I could, I'd make world peace,
If I could, I'd stop everyone form being judgemental,
If I could, I'd stop abuse,
If I could, I'd make America prevail,
If I could, I'd end ALL evil,
If I could, I would.

This poem was printed in my local newspaper, and I hope it will be printed in your coolio newsletter.

Jokes from fellow Bookworms

*****

What do you call a fly with no wings? A walk
What lies on its back, one hundred feet in the air? A dead centipede
Have you heard the joke about the garbage truck? Don't worry, it's only a load of rubbish
What do you get if you cross a shark with a parrot? An animal that talks your head off
What do ghosts take for bad colds? Coffin drops
How does a tennis player sneeze? A-tennis-shoe! A-tennis-shoe!
What do witches wear on their hair? Scare spray
If a dictionary goes from A to Z, what goes from Z to A? A zebra
What did the window say to the door? What are you squeaking about, I'm the one with the pane!
How do you stop a dinosaur charging? Take away his credit card
What has one foot and four legs? A bed

To the person who wrote
I also like P. S longer letter later. it is about 2 girls Tara*Starr and Elizabeth who are very different but are best friends. Elizabeth had to move away and the whole book is full of their letters. The sequel to it is called snailmail no more in that book is full of their E-mails!
In the book P.S. Longer Letter Later it is not Elizabeth who moves it is Tara* who moves. Just thought i'd let you know, A fellow Bookworm

I strongly recommend Little Women. It is interesting, funny, and is a DEFINITE page-turner. Also, to the person who writes poems, I think it's GREAT! Keep writing.

O my goodness! I can't believe nobody has said anything about His Dark Materials series! I know that sounds kinda spooky. Really it is awesome though! I really don't like scary books but this series is wonderful! The first book is called, The Golden Compass, the 2nd book is The Subtle Knife, and the 3rd book The Amber Spyglass!!! These are definent must reads for Sci-Fi lovers! Or those who enjoy Harry Potter (ME!!!). Does anybody know when the 5th Harry Potter book is supposed to be coming out? I can't wait! I've read them all like 5 times each! Hehe!!!

I really love your website and news letter. I know Mary-Kate and Ashley are really popular with girls and stuff, but I don't like them. I also know that people have a right to voice their opinions and have different ones, too, so I'm going to voice mine: Remember the person who said that this newsletter should have stuff on Mary-Kate and Ashley? Well, do you also remember how there were a lot of responses to that, and that it is a reading newsletter? I agree with them! I mean, what would happen if you focused on some book that wasn't so popular? I mean, one that isn't so "in," but isn't disliked? just maybe one no-one has heard of or something!

From Booker T. Worm: Thanks for your comments! At KidsReads.com we work with publishers to help bring a wide variety of book reviews to all of our visitors. We received numerous requests for Mary-Kate & Ashley books, so we decided to do a feature on them for their 16th birthday. Not everyone will like all the books we review, but then again, that's why there are SO many books... for everyone!

To the person who said that they were running out of books and the were "desperate", and anyone else who want to listen to me talk about books, here are some super books that I love!:
1. THE GREAT GREEN NOTEBOOK OF KATIE ROBERTS (WHO JUST TURNED 12 ON MONDAY)
2. THE ENCHANTED FOREST CHRONICLES: DEALING WITH DRAGONS, SEARCHING FOR DRAGONS, CALLING ON DRAGONS, TALKING WITH DRAGONS
3. THE CARMEN SANDIAGO MYSTERY SERIES
4. THE BUNNICULA SERIES: BUNNICULA, HOWLIDAY INN, CELERY STALKS AT MIDNIGHT, NIGHTY-NIGHTMARE, RETURN TO HOWLIDAY INN, BUNNICULA STRIKES AGAIN (LOCK UP YOUR ARTICHOKES!)
5. MONSTERS IN THE ATTIC

A fellow 11 1/2 year old reader in Massachusetts =D

To the person who said that the 5th Harry Potter book is coming out this year, that is untrue. J.K. Rowling's English publisher, Bloomsbury, confirmed last month that J.K. hasn't yet finished the book, and it isn't expected on shelves until next year.

Also: I have no idea where you got your information, but Harry Potter websites are NOT being closed down. You should try not to spread rumors if possible.

* * * * *

Omigod! I love to read! For anybody who ran out of books to read you should read these books:

If you are going to read The Pigman's Legacy (I was the person who wrote about it) you might want to read The Pigman first, because The Pigman's Legacy is a sequel.I found that out because at school I wasn't feeling good so I was laying down in the nurses office and a 6th grade teacher came in and started to talk about books with the nurse, and all of a sudden I heard The Pigman come up and I just LOOKED at him, I almost wanted to say "I read The Pigman's Legacy!" and he said Mr. Pignati which was also in the book, so I knew we were thinking of the same book.

* * * * *

I'm reading chicken soup for the preteen sole. It has stories for everybody. If somebody is feeling down be kind and give them a little chicken soup. Feeling down read that book and in 2 minutes you will be laughing. I would recommend it any one.

The Redwall series are the best books ever! They have some fighting (well acually quite a lot) and the beginins are sort of boring but still they are the best! The one I enjoyed the most is Outcast of Redwall. It has a really good ending!

Another really good book is The Bronze Bow (it is not a redwall book)

* * * * *

To the person who said The legacy of the Pigman was great you should read The Pigman it is the first book. It is so good. I loved it. Does anyone know when the next Harry Potter is coming out? Thanks

From Booker T. Worm: The Associated Press reported on May 9, 2002 that anxious Harry Potter fans may have to wait until 2003 for the fifth novel in J.K. Rowling's successful series. HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX was due to be published this summer, but it doesn't seem likely that Rowling will finish writing the novel before the end of 2002. According to Rebecca Salt, a spokesperson for the author, Rowling is still working on the novel, and says it could be this year, or it could be next year. Rumors that Rowling was suffering from writer's block were also denied by Rowling's spokesperson.

To the dude who wrote that they liked Harry P, lemony snicket, Avalon, Madeline L'engle, and unicorns, we obviously have alot in common. Yet I will add two more authors to MY list: Rodman Philbrick and Phillip Pullman. I recomend A glory of unicorns, a collection of short stories about unicorns. I cannot put down a book once I get into it. This leaves me with late bedtimes. To my fellow bookworms, keep it up!
