THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE (Full-color Collector's Edition)
by C. S. Lewis
HarperCollins
ISBN: 0064409422
Age Level: BEGINNING (Ages 6-8)

When war breaks out in England, four siblings --- Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter --- are sent from London to live with an old Professor in the country, where they will be safer. One rainy day when the children are exploring the Professor's huge manor, Lucy discovers an old wardrobe. She decides to investigate and way back behind the coats, she finds herself wandering into a strange, snowy land: Narnia.

Once in Narnia Lucy meets a Faun (half-goat and half-man) who explains who's who and what's what in Narnia. He warns Lucy to avoid the White Witch, who has cast a spell that keeps Narnia in the grip of winter all the time. Because of her evilness, Christmas and spring never arrive.

Lucy takes the Faun's advice and when she heads back home, her brothers and sister don't believe her when she tells them where she's been. But they believe the story all too soon when they eventually accompany her to Narnia and see it for themselves.

It's there that they meet a cast of talking animals, the White Witch herself and, finally, Aslan, the majestic lion King of all Narnia who must set things right in his kingdom. But first the good creatures of Narnia will rescue Edmund from the clutches of the White Witch before she meets Aslan in battle.

Hold on tight for this magical adventure.
