Twelve-year-old George Honiker is in the sixth grade and well-liked by his teacher and his classmates. He seems to be a happy-go-lucky kid with a special talent --- "George is good in art," they say. But George has a lot of worries for a boy his age.

He is living with his sister and her husband in a tiny trailer in the Versailles Trailer Park while his father is away in Florida trying to find work. And now the mill in their town may be closing, which means George's brother-in-law will be out of work, too. Since George's sister is expecting a baby, he is worried that they won't be able to let him continue living with them.

Then all his fears come true when George arrives home on the school bus one day to find the trailer park nearly empty. He runs to the end of the park where his sister's trailer used to be, but the tiny trailer is gone. What will George do now?

Nobody could have guessed that the weird grandmother of Rennie Whitfield, the richest kid in school, would offer to take George under her wing. It's a very different world in the Whitfield house. Suddenly George has everything a boy could want including fancy clothes for every occasion. And back in the trailer park, his best friend Lizard is puzzled by George's new appearance. Is George still the same person or not? Before long, George will have to decide whether to stay with the Whitfields, follow his sister and brother-in-law, or go hunting for his father.
