When we last left Tom Golden, he had been rescued from a dangerous situation and was adjusting to the fact that he now has an Invisible Friend named Grey Arthur and that he can see other ghosts. Life has been going well for Tom and he has quickly learned how beneficial having an Invisible Friend can be.

Unfortunately for Tom, his life has been turned upside down once again, when Grey Arthur decides to open a school for ghosts who would like to become Invisible Friends. Soon, a small group of interested ghosts enroll and begin their new job training, which entails following around Arthur as they observe how the average young student lives --- or, in other words, how Tom lives. The trainees' previous occupations are as distinctly different from Arthur's as the trainees themselves are to each other. I don't want to give them all away, but one of my favorites is Monty, whose grand entrance is quite memorable.

Meanwhile, as Tom deals with Arthur's new teaching job, bad things start to happen in both the Real World and the Ghost World. Business has dropped dramatically at both of Tom's parents' jobs, and ghosts have begun to mysteriously and silently disappear at an alarming rate. Rumors spread of an old ghost-myth possibly having come true, one that leaves ghosts fearful that they're going to be its next intended target. Tom, Arthur and their friends (new and old) begin a race against time that will take them on a thrilling ride all across England and beyond.

THE NIGHTMARES THAT GHOSTS HAVE is a clever page-turner. While at times quite suspenseful, it remains funny as readers are introduced to more ghostly characters, some of which are unique even by ghostly standards. Overall this book is well worth the read and seems to be even better than its predecessor. Fans both old and new to this series are sure to enjoy a thrilling ride as they follow Golden & Grey's latest adventure.
