KIRSTEN, 1854
In 1854, nine-year-old Kirsten Larsen and her family (Mama, Papa and
brothers Lars and Peter) left their small village in Sweden to sail
across the sea and start a new life in America. Can you believe that
they brought only two big trunks with them as luggage? Such a big
change isn't easy to make, especially since everything in America
--- the language, the clothes people wear --- is very different from
what Kirsten is used to. But the Larsens are lucky --- they have relatives
who already live in America, and when they finally arrive at Uncle
Olav's farm in Minnesota, the future looks bright.
