Fast Facts
- When Dav was a kid he suffered from extreme hyperactivity and was diagnosed with a disorder called Attention Deficit Disorder. He also had lots of trouble reading and learning. He turned out pretty great just the same...
- Dav was such a big troublemaker that his teacher actually kept a little desk out in the hallway for him. Of course, Dav would keep paper and crayons and markers in the desk so that when his teacher sent him out into the hallway, he would spend the day drawing pictures and writing stories.
- Dav's book publishing career started when he entered The National Written and Illustrated by... Awards Contest for Students while studying art at college. He entered his first book, WORLD WAR WON in the contest and won the whole darn thing!
- In 1993 Dav and his longtime sweetheart, author/artist Cyndi Rylant, up and moved to Oregon (Eugene, Oregon to be exact). Dav still lives there, in a small house surrounded by tall trees, with his cat, Blueberry, and his three dogs; Martha Jane, Leia and Little Dog.
- Dav Pilkey's name can be pronounced Dav (rhymes with HAVE) or Dave. He took the e off his name in high school. See, he used to work at Pizza Hut and one day they made a name tag for him but the label maker was broken and wouldn't print out the letter e. So his name tag just read "Dav." He's spelled it that way ever since.
