1. The first Eloise book, called ELOISE was published on November 29, 1955. The original price was $2.95. The first printing had 7,500 copies.
   
   
2. In 1956 an Eloise song was released. It was written and recorded by Kay Thompson, with Archie Bleyer's orchestra.
   
   
3. In November 1956 a TV production of ELOISE aired on national television. It was a musical adaptation of the book starring Ethel Barrymore, Monty Wolley, Conrad Hilton, Louis Jourdan and Kay Thompson.
   
   
4. In March 1957 Hilary Knight completed a painting of Eloise, which is hung in the lobby of the Plaza Hotel. On December 6, 1960 the Eloise painting disappears from the hotel, and later that month Kay Thompson offers a reward for its return. It never turns up. On April 17, 1964 a new oil painting is completed by Hilary Knight, which is the one that currently hangs in the Plaza.
   
   
5. In November 1957 ELOISE IN PARIS is published. The original price was $3.50.
   
   
6. In November 1958 ELOISE AT CHRISTMASTIME is published.
   
   
7. In October 1959 ELOISE IN MOSCOW is published. The original price was $3.75.
   
   
8. On December 11, 1963 Room #934 at the Plaza Hotel is designated The Eloise Room. In 1973 it closes.
   
   
9. On July 2, 1998 Kay Thompson dies peacefully at the Manhattan home of her goddaughter, Liza Minelli. She was 88.
   
   
10. In May 1999, ELOISE IN PARIS is reissued and ELOISE: THE ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL EDITION, the tribute book, is published.
    
    
11. In October 1999, ELOISE AT CHRISTMASTIME is reissued, with a newly-designed jacket and four new interior illustrations.
    
    
12. In March 2000, ELOISE IN MOSCOW is reissued.
    
    
13. In June 2000, ELOISE'S GUIDE TO LIFE: How to Eat, Dress, Travel, Behave, and Stay Six Forever is published.
    
    
14. In October 2000, ELOISE: THE ULTIMATE EDITION is published with all four original Eloise Books.
    
    
15. In October 2002, ELOISE TAKES A BAWTH is published. It was begun by Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight in the 1960s and completed in 2002 with all new drawings by Hilary Knight.
    
    
16. As of October 2002 the Eloise books have sold over 3.5 million copies.
