Kristiana Gregory
Kristiana Gregory says that her writing is her way of sharing with young readers her love of history and her deep appreciation for our first Americans. She received a Golden Kite Award for JENNY IN THE TETONS — the first in her "Great Episodes" series. Along with being a former book reviewer and columnist for The Los Angeles Times, she also was an editor, a legal secretary and a summer camp counselor/swim instructor. She lives in Boise, Idaho with her family.

Kathryn Lasky
Kathryn Lasky is the Newbery Honor-winning author of SUGARING TIME, as
well as many other distinguished books for middle-grade and young-adult readers. She has
written two books in the Dear America series, A JOURNEY TO THE NEW WORLD: The Diary of Remember Patience Whipple and DREAMS IN THE GOLDEN COUNTRY: The Diary of Zipporah Feldman, a Jewish Immigrant Girl. She has also written four books
for The Royal Diaries series, MARIE ANTOINETTE, Princess of Versailles; ELIZABETH I, Red Rose Of The House Of Tudor; MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS: Queen Without A Country, France, 1553 and KAZUNOMIYA: Prisoner of Heaven, Japan 1858. Lasky lives
in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with her family.

Patricia McKissack
Patricia C. McKissack joins the Royal Diaries family with her book NZINGHA, Warrior Queen of Matamba. She first learned of Nzingha from a promotional poster
entitled "Great Kings and Queens of Africa," produced by Anheuser Busch Brewery,
Inc. The brief biographical note that accompanied the portrait was enough to inspire
McKissack to find out more about the warrior-diplomat. She has written several other
award-winning books, as well as two stories for the Dear America family: A
PICTURE OF FREEDOM and COLOR ME DARK, both of which have been made into HBO specials. She
lives and works with her husband in Chesterfield, Missouri.

Carolyn Meyer
Carolyn Meyer is a noted writer of historical fiction for middle-grade and young adult readers. Anastasia is her second book in the THE ROYAL DIARIES Series following ISABEL: Jewel of Castilla. Among her historical fiction novels are GIDEON'S PEOPLE, an American Bookseller Pick of the List; DRUMMERS OF JERICHO, named a Notable Book by SSLI; and WHITE LILACS and WHERE THE BROKEN HEART STILL BEATS, both named ALA Best Books for Young Adults. Long ago, Carolyn fell in love with the story of Anastasia. She now lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she does a little gardening, a little cooking, and a lot of reading and writing.

Ellen Emerson White
Ellen Emerson White author of DEAR AMERICA: VOYAGE ON THE GREAT TITANIC,
has written several novels for young adults, including KAIULANI, The People's Princess, THE PRESIDENT'S DAUGHTER,
LIFE WITHOUT FRIENDS, and LONG LIVE THE QUEEN, which was named
an ALA Best Book for Young Adults. She is also the author of the ECHO COMPANY
series. White lives in New York City.

Laurence Yep
Laurence Yep grew up in California and couldn't help hearing about the Gold Rush. He is a respected author of historical fiction including two Newbery Honor books: DRAGONWINGS and DRAGON'S GATE. His other awards include the Boston Globe-Horn Book award and the Jane Addams Peace Award for CHILD OF THE OWL and the Christopher Medal for STAR FISHER. Laurence Yep has been a National Endowment for the Arts fellow and a writer-in-residence at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He lives in Pacific Grove, California, with his wife, writer Joanne Ryder.
